An exciting opportunity exists for a Senior Technical Author to join our Aerospace client in Bristol

The Job
Experienced Technical Authors are required to work on Airframe and Aircraft Systems.
As a part of the authoring team, you would be responsible to create or amend Aircraft manuals in accordance with the technical specifications provided by the customer, using customer specific authoring tools. You will also be responsible to answer customer queries and work closely with the Customer’s technical publications department and the associated subject matter experts.
As a Technical Author, you will be expected to work with a minimal level of supervision and ensure that the deliverables are met within the designated time frame and to the necessary quality level.
As an author you will be expected to have a good understanding of the aerospace industry and the necessary standards – ATA iSpec 2200, AECMA S1000D and Simplified Technical English.
Main Duties:
- Understand and correctly interpret the customer’s source documentation.
- Create/amend tasks based on requests by the customer.
- Researches information about the product by interrogating customer specific systems.
- Verifies the accuracy of his/her own work.
- Works closely with the technical illustrators to provide accurate illustration files.
- Ensures his/her deliverable is available to the client at the designated time according to the project schedule and that all deliverables are to the required quality.
- Understand and manage necessary aircraft configuration and control.
- Any additional tasks required as the role evolves.
Required Skills/Background
- Previous experience of technical authoring or working within a technical writing environment, especially in the aerospace industry, would be preferred. However consideration will be given to candidates with experience in other electro mechanical engineering areas and also applicants that demonstrate suitable practical experience in an aerospace environment.
- Working knowledge with the Microsoft office suite including Word and Excel and must be familiar with basic email and internet communications.
- Experience in the following applications is an advantage but not essential – Epic Editor, GIPSY/GIDOCA, SAP/GAMS, Airbus systems and portals.
- Organised, logical and lateral thinker who can multitask. Must be able to read and interpret documents such as engineering drawings, maintenance analysis documents, CAD generated models and a host of other written, verbal and diagram documents.
