Job Description
Assist in the testing of Garmin products by conceiving and developing manual and automated tests to verify that product software has effective behavior and meets system and software requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Work with product development teams to perform requirements validation
* Work with product development teams to perform software validation and testing
* Create, execute, and refine requirements-based manual software test procedures
* Create, execute, and refine automated unit level and module level software test drivers
* Develop test infrastructure to assist in software development and test
* Analyze test results and users’ feedback, and communicate with product development teams to assist in problem resolution
* Participate in selection and deployment of software quality related tools and procedures
* Train new team members as assigned
* May create and review software certification documentation according to RTCA DO-178B standards (for aviation positions only)

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Perform other job-related duties as assigned

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
* Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a field relevant to Garmin’s business needs for this role, or 4 years work experience performing a role substantially similar to the essential functions of this job description
* Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
* Must possess experience and/or training in high level computer languages such as C/C++ and scripting languages relevant to Garmin’s business needs
* Demonstrated organizational and analytical skills with keen attention to detail and quality
* Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to work proactively and effectively with minimal supervision
* Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environment

* Previous work related experience in developing automated test drivers relevant to Garmin’s business needs
* Previous experience working in a team environment
* Experience in testing embedded devices in one of Garmin’s core product markets (Aviation, Automotive, Mobile, Marine, OEM, Fitness, Outdoor & Recreation)
* Desirable qualifications for aviation positions include:
* Pilot license or aviation experience
* Experience with RTCA DO-178B certification standards

Main Purpose:

The position is based in the Flight Physics Department, whose role is to provide aerodynamic information to the design teams. Specific activities within this project include the prediction of parasitic drag, including calculation and estimation of the effects on aircraft performance. Providing feedback and implementing methods to improve process and performance are key parts of this role.

The role requires management of the project in the UK as part of a transnational work package. Developing a high level working relationship with the client and other suppliers (both internal and external to the company) is essential.

Producing and maintaining technical project engineering reports for approval by the client is also a key part of this role.

Essential Skills:

• Minimum Bachelors’ level degree education in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.

• Background in flight physics/fluid dynamics or aerodynamics domain.

• Likely to have a minimum 2 years industrial experience.
• Knowledge of key aerodynamic & design tools, e.g. CAD, CFD, analytical tools.

• Strong communication skills.
• Good written and verbal English.

Job Description
Due to the expanding workload several vacancies have arisen for Landing Gear Experts on the Airbus Filton site in Bristol. We have positions available within the Landing Gear Structures Analysis department and within the Landing Gear Systems department.

As a Landing Gear Structures Analysis Engineer your main tasks would include:-

• Carry out structural analysis and checks on Landing Gear and equipment suppliers analyses to assess solutions for a range of tasks including design, certification, concessions, modifications, test, and in-service support.
• Review and comment on supplier analysis and justification reports and deliver fully approved and authorized technical reports to programme leaders, Structures, Airworthiness and Chief Engineers.
• Responsible for structures acceptance and approval of Landing Gears and equipment (level 2 signatory).
• Technical Liaison with specialists in fatigue and damage tolerance, materials and processes, finite element analysis, and other a/c structural analysis disciplines to ensure structural integrity.
• Support structural analysis aspects of supplier audits and delegated authority processes.
• Provide Landing Gear Structural Analysis and certification principles/expertise into Landing Gear and equipment Research & Development projects (e.g. materials, loads monitoring, taxiing and optimization).
• Support reviews and ensure that decisions are robust and applications are feasible and deliverables appropriate to aircraft application.
• Support and deliver business improvements in line with Airbus objectives (Lean Engineering).
• Ensure good working relationships with customers are developed and maintained.

For these roles, we are looking for candidates who are educated to Degree level with a minimum of 5 years experience within any of the following areas: Landing Gear, aerospace hydro-mechanical systems, automotive mechanical systems (gear boxes, drive trains, suspensions), nuclear energy, power stations, hydraulic Actuators, large marine, oil rigs. You would be expected to carry out hand stress analysis on various structural components. You would therefore need to possess a sound understanding of aerospace engineering processes and activities and be capable of creating structural policies and coordinate buy-off for Landing Gear. You would need to be able to do technical assessments and produce technical reports.


Main activities for Landing Gear Systems Engineers include:-

• Specify, develop and provide technical support for the Main, Nose, Body and Centre Landing Gears for all Airbus Aircrafts.
• Ensure Landing Gear Design Integration involving the monitoring of vendor designs for compliance with the Airbus requirements and integrating the Landing Gear with the relevant specific Landing Gear design elements with all the other relevant skill areas (i.e. Structural Analysis, Design Installation, Loads and Dynamics etc) into the Aircraft and the associated operating systems.
• Verifying and validating (through reviews and definition) the activities required to qualify/certify that the equipment meets the design objectives i.e. analysis, rig testing and flight testing.
• Production of verification documentation.
• Assist the Team Leaders in managing the Suppliers, ensuring that requirements are clear and the deliverables are received on time, right first time.

For these roles, we are looking for candidates with an Engineering Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical / Aeronautical Engineering plus at least 5 years post graduate experience in the Aerospace industry or similar. A background in Mechanical / Hydraulic engineering and the ability to derive detailed design requirements from first principles are a must. We prefer candidates with experience in Aircraft Systems and Landing Gear (or a similar large complex mechanical engineering project) and an overall appreciation of aircraft design. You would need to be able to work as an interface with the business and external parties, such as vendors and suppliers. Good administrative and communication skills and a proactive approach to problem solving are therefore required for these positions.
