Licensed Aircraft Engineer

In January 2012, Emirates will commence a daily service from Rio de Janeiro to Dubai.

The Position:
Based at Rio de Janeiro International Airport,you will carry out maintenance and certification of aircraft (including cabin maintenance) to ensure best possible standards for all systems and passenger amenities. You will liaise with the Head Office and other concerned parties in the event of defects affecting the dispatch of the aircraft and will supervise mechanics, technicians and all aspects of servicing, defect rectification and maintenance carried out on the aircraft. In addition you will be responsible for taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety of personnel working in the vicinity of the aircraft and to prevent damage to the aircraft and/or it?s equipment. Assisting with the administration of the station including: materials handling, equipment servicing, reporting processes, rostering and other associated duties will also be part of the role.

Experience and Qualifications:
You will have a minimum of 10 years aviation experience of which at least 7 years as a certifying Engineer with supervisory experience. You will have completed approved training that resulted in the issuance of an EASA 66 B1 or ICAO Type 2 license. You must have thorough technical skills and knowledge of aircraft systems and safety practices. You should hold B777-200LR/300ER with GE90 engine approvalsand have been trained to EASA 147 or level 3 standards will your application be considered. Other types of a/c operated by Emirates would be an advantage. You will be computer literate and a good standard of proficiency with office applications. The ability to communicate effectively at all levels in English and Brazilian Portuguese is also required.

Experienced Technical Authors are required to work on Airframe and Aircraft Systems.

As a part of the authoring team, you would be responsible to create or amend Aircraft manuals in accordance with the technical specifications provided by the customer, using customer specific authoring tools. You will also be responsible to answer customer queries and work closely with the Customer’s technical publications department and the associated subject matter experts.

As a Technical Author, you will be expected to work with a minimal level of supervision and ensure that the deliverables are met within the designated time frame and to the necessary quality level.

As an author you will be expected to have a good understanding of the aerospace industry and the necessary standards – ATA iSpec 2200, AECMA S1000D and Simplified Technical English.

Main Duties:
- Understand and correctly interpret the customer’s source documentation.
- Create/amend tasks based on requests by the customer.
- Researches information about the product by interrogating customer specific systems.
- Verifies the accuracy of his/her own work.
- Works closely with the technical illustrators to provide accurate illustration files.
- Ensures his/her deliverable is available to the client at the designated time according to the project schedule and that all deliverables are to the required quality.
- Understand and manage necessary aircraft configuration and control.
- Any additional tasks required as the role evolves.

Required Skills/Background
- Previous experience of technical authoring or working within a technical writing environment, especially in the aerospace industry, would be preferred. However consideration will be given to candidates with experience in other electro mechanical engineering areas and also applicants that demonstrate suitable practical experience in an aerospace environment.
- Working knowledge with the Microsoft office suite including Word and Excel and must be familiar with basic email and internet communications.
- Experience in the following applications is an advantage but not essential – Epic Editor, GIPSY/GIDOCA, SAP/GAMS, Airbus systems and portals.
- Organised, logical and lateral thinker who can multitask. Must be able to read and interpret documents such as engineering drawings, maintenance analysis documents, CAD generated models and a host of other written, verbal and diagram documents.

    Receives, documents, organizes and files all Technical Data material assigned to the ALPHA STAR   Technical Library such as, but not limited to, AMM, IPC, SRM, OHM, SOPM, CPM, CMM, MEL, QRHB, FCOM, OIT, OEB, FOT, SIL, AOT Wiring Diagram, Illustrated Tools & Equipment List    (ITEL), Flight Manuals, Weight and Balance Manuals, Product Standards, Material Standards, Process Standards, Engineering Drawings, EOC's and supporting data, EAD's and supporting data,  Supplement Manuals, Service Bulletins, Service Letters, Airworthiness Directives, Technical Indexes, and other material specified by the ALPHA STAR Technical Library Section.
    Ensures that the data received above is current, controlled, and logged, when received, in the          ALPHA STAR Technical Library's inventory system.
    Updating ALPHA STAR Flight Operation department manuals and maps.
    Follows the established filing system and organization system in organizing and filing all of the data assigned to the ALPHA STAR Technical Library. This includes electronic and hard copy filing system to facilitate retrieval of data expeditiously and accurately.
    Familiar with XML applications for AIRBUS digital manuals.
    Able to establish & affective the technical library to digital system.
    Able to communicate with vendors and OEM as required. 
    Ensures that all of the Technical Data in the ALPHA STAR Technical Library is current / updated as required by the Regulatory, Departmental, and FAA/GACA RSQM & GOM requirements.
    Ensures that all outdated/uncontrolled documents are labelled as "Uncontrolled".
    Order Technical Publications Service materials and maintain records for the Quotations,
    Details on the invoices. Co-ordinates with Finance for Publication related invoices.
    Conducts daily inventory of all materials checked out from the ALPHA STAR Technical Library and determines shortages and personnel holding any document.
    Follows up with personnel to retrieve all checked out technical material within the allowed time frame.
    Conducts quarterly inspection of all manuals assigned to manual holders to ensure manuals' currency.
    This is done by developing a summary list of manuals with corresponding revision status and counterchecking against the actual manuals available in the designated locations.
    Follows departmental policy and procedures as set in the manual and as directed by the Quality Director.
    Performs other duties as required by Quality Director.

Prerequisites:
    Preferably holder of FAA/EASA or ICAO Type II license in any trade.
    Formal aviation training or recognized apprenticeship.
    Ability to read and reliably interpret all aircraft technical manuals.
    Highly motivated individual with good organized approach to challenges.
    Speak, read and write fluent English.
    Computer literate. Familiarity with MS office/ MS project as a minimum.

Total Experience:
Minimum 7 years experience in Aviation Industry, of which 5 years must be in Technical Publication Library.

British Airways Engineering Technical Apprenticeship

The Technical Apprenticeship is a three-year programme run in conjunction with one of our four partner colleges, Brooklands, Farnborough, Kingston or Uxbridge, with the aim of delivering up to 120 apprentices per year.
The first year will be spent full-time at college gaining both practical and theoretical skills related to aircraft maintenance that are required to become an aircraft engineer. During this first year you will be required to study for a PEO – Performing Engineering Operations (level 2 qualification), functional skills and possibly a subsidiary diploma in engineering (level 3 qualification). You will also have four weeks of work experience at Heathrow, some of which will be during the college holidays. During the year you will have contact with engineering training instructors on a regular basis. There will also be a liaison officer from within the British Airways Engineering training department aligned to each college who will monitor and address any issues from the programme.

At the end of the first year students will be required to apply to British Airways for a placement and go through an interview process. Successful candidates will be able to complete years two and three of the apprenticeship with British Airways on a paid 2-year, fixed-term contract based at Heathrow Airport.

In years 2 and 3 you will work for four days a week gaining invaluable experience in the work place on live aircraft and gaining first hand experience of aircraft systems and component overhaul and testing. You will then attend your partner college on a day-release basis for the fifth day. A college placement advisor will also visit you on a regular basis to in the workplace to discuss your progress.

When at college during years 2 & 3 you will be required to study for a City & Guilds 2661 (level 3 qualification) which provides a strong grounding for any future aircraft engineering licence programmes (A, B1/B2 and C). On completion of the apprenticeship you may be offered a full-time contract as a mechanic subject to the appropriate selection process.
