How to Convert FAA Pilot Certificate to a DGCA of Professional Pilot's License

Guidelines for Conversion 
US FAA Airmen Certificate to the Indian Professional Pilot License of DGCA

(A) Applicants must obtain from foreign for submission with application:-
1. Valid foreign Professional Pilot’s License + verification letter from issuing State
2. Valid foreign Class-I Medical Assessment from State of issue
3. Authenticated Log book of a period of at least preceding 5 years, which must
include information regarding dates, aircraft type(single/Multi) and registration,
crew status (PIC, Co-pilot etc.), total time, Sectors, Departure-arrival times, day &
Nights, X-country flights, X-country tests with no. of landings, Skill tests (Day /
night / IR with no. of landings) instrument time(actual, simulated in aircraft),
simulator flying (separately logged). All the entries must be verified by the
appropriate authority in the State of Issue of foreign license. Tests must be
signed by the examiners as well.
4. Valid Certificates of Skill tests for Single as well as Multi engine(if multi aircraft
rating is desired)(Note: The tests shall be on the type of aircraft which are
also available and registered in India and the test shall be on performa as
laid down in India duly authenticated by the Instructor/ designated
representative of State Regulatory Authority)
5. Statement of 20Hrs Cross-country flights / 50 Hrs if IR is also requested.
6. Cross-country check reports, total three(300NM with two full stop landings,
250NM with one full stop landing, 120NM by night while returning to point of
departure without landing)
7. 5Hrs Night Flying as PIC with certificate of 10numbers of take offs and 10
numbers of landings
8. For IR issue : Instrument time total =40 Hrs (actual on aircraft 20 or more+
simulated 20 or less) and at least 5Hr instrument time on actual aircraft in
preceding six months (for IR issue)
9. For Multi endorsement on CPL: Record of ground training and pass result of
technical exam,
Statement indicating at least 10 hrs of training on multi engine aircraft for which
endorsement is requested(including test/ check), and within 6 months General
flying test by day with three solo take off and landings each, General flying test
Night with three solo take off and landings each and for IR on multi IR test report
with two approaches on aircraft for which multi -endorsement on license is
requested.

Flying aircrafts: A Costly Process

    Where eagles dare:Aspirants have to fly for a minimum of 190 hours, which must include 150 hours solo, 25 hours cross country, 10 hours instrument flying and five hours of night flying, as part of the total 250 hours of flying, to be eligible for a commercial pilot licence.

Having ambition and setting goals in life helps us move in a particular direction and prosper when we are able to achieve those goals. But ambition must be within a set limit. For without considering your time, resources and capabilities, ambition only becomes a fantasy.

For many young people becoming a pilot is their pet dream and ambition. Becoming a pilot is no easy task. It is as tough as clearing the civil services examination or clearing CAT and involves very high costs. Not all parents may be able to afford such heavy fees and other costs involved. Though one may get a bank loan, the repayment may become a burden if one does not land a job immediately after completing the course.

Getting a commercial Pilot Licence is long drawn process and may take anywhere between three to four years before one is eligible for it.

First you have to get a SPL - Student Pilot License.
You will have to pass a theory exam in Air Regulations, Aviation Meteorology, Air Navigation and Air Technical. Take the PABT – Pilot Aptitude and Battery Test.
Eligibility is Class X with minimum age of 16 years. A medical fitness test also has to be undergone. Then you have to obtain a PPL – Private Pilot licence. This involves logging in 60 hours of flying, including dual flying (instructor led), minimum 20 hours solo and 5 hours cross country. Eligibility is 10+2, medical fitness and clearing the Air Regulations, Aviation Meteorology, Air Navigation, Aircraft Engines and Seamanship theory subjects.

Finally, you have to get the CPL (Commercial Pilot License) to be able to fly cargo and passenger aircraft. For this, one has to fly for a minimum of 190 hours (which must include 150 hours solo, 25 hours cross country, 10 hours instrument flying and five hours of night flying) so as to have a total of 250 hours as per regulation. It should include circuit landing, general flying, instrument flying, cross countries, day /night flying and skill tests.

One must also pass examination in subjects - Regulations, Air Navigation, Air Meteorology, Aircraft and Engines and Radio Telephony. The candidate must also have a medical fitness certificate.

After that to be eligible to fly any aircraft the candidate has to get Air Transport Pilot License (ATPL). Only then the candidate will be eligible to start his/her career as a co-pilot. After about 10 years, one can aspire to be a commander.

Each hour of flying during PPL may cost anywhere between Rs. 1500 – Rs. 2000. CPL hourly rate can be as high as Rs. 4000 per hour. Apart from this there will be examination fees and other costs.

The flying academy will have its own admission charges and fees.

Overall you may have to spend Rs. 30,00,000 in India or more than Rs. 50,000,00 abroad to become a full fledged pilot. Depending on the flying school or club you may be able to finish the course in about three- four years time.

There are only a few top rated flying clubs/schools in India. They operate on a first come –first serve basis for allotting aircraft for students. There is a shortage of instructors. Priority is given to foreign students as they pay hefty fees in foreign currency. So getting through the allotted hours may be delayed.

Considering all these factors, now think if it is worth your time and money to get a CPL and become a pilot.

Passive, electronic tire pressure sensing systems, including SmartStem, are now allowed for tire pressure checks that need to be made within 96 hours before take-off.

Lynnwood, Wash. – January 7, 2011 – The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued guidance which permits the flight crews of Learjet 60 aircraft flying Part 135 to use Crane Aerospace & Electronics’ SmartStem® Passive Wireless Tire Pressure System to check tire pressure on their own aircraft.

This announcement permits a significant simplification in the way a Part 135 operator can comply with the FAA’s Airworthiness Directive, effective July 13, 2010, which requires tire pressure checks to be made within 96 hours before take-off. Although the use of manual gauges is still prohibited for Part 135 Pilots, passive, electronic tire pressure sensing systems, including SmartStem, are now allowed.

SmartStem was developed by Crane Aerospace & Electronics to provide a fast and reliable method of checking tire pressure without gas loss - plus tire pressure can be checked without the removal of the valve stem cap. It is also designed to be easily retrofitted on existing aircraft. The SmartStem system for the Learjet 60 is currently available via FAA STC #ST02316LA offered by Crane Aerospace & Electronics. Kits can be purchased at www.craneae.com/Learjet60SS.

Learjet 60 operators under Part 135 were previously required to have tire pressure checks performed by an A&P Certified Mechanic, which frequently added substantial operational costs and delays when operating in remote locations.

Procedure to Convert Foreign Pilot License To Indian Pilot License





First obtain a computer number.Download the form to get Computer number click here. After completing the DGCA form mail this form to the following address:

After you obtain the computer number you can now answer exams. You also need to have Class 1 Medical done for converting your foreign license.

To obtain a class 1 medical you need to have a class 2 medical first.

You also need to have a Valid medical of the country you are flying. For Pilots getting trained in the USA First Class Medical is Must.

EXAMS
Now you need to pass 2 papers or 3 papers of dgca exams depends on you.
Air-Regulations is one of the paper to be answered and the second paper is Composite it is a combination of METEOROLOGY AND NAVIGATION. (choose individually). To eligible  for a composite paper you should be a CPL License Holder.
These papers are valid for a period of 30 months after the results.

Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company, will help young pilots achieve their dreams by pledging financial support for the 2010 EAA Young Eagles Scholarship Program. Designed to support teenagers interested in aviation and aviation careers, EAA Young Eagles scholarships fund flying lessons and flight experiences for deserving teenage student pilots.


In 2010, flight training scholarships funded by Rolls-Royce will be awarded to six students who have completed the majority of EAA’s online ground school class Winners will attend an FAA qualified flight school. Additionally, one student will receive a voucher towards flight training completion to earn a Private Pilot’s license.

Ken Roberts, Rolls-Royce, President – Helicopters, said: “Rolls-Royce is excited to sponsor this worthy scholarship program for young aviators. EAA Young Eagles represents education, aviation and passion for flight. We are proud of the students who receive these scholarships and like them, we share a passion for aviation.”

A. Pilots: As a pilot, I know from first-hand experience that starting wages for civilian pilots are very poor. Typically a pilot’s first job fresh off the lot is a flight instructor (CFI, CFII, MEI) for a flight school, and they make about 12k a year. This is not because of the hourly wage is so low, but the fact that they are only paid when in two roles (flight time, and ground). Also, it is possible for someone to make a living flight instructing, but this is usually someone who has thousands of hours of experience who usually owns his or her own plane.

To further restrict the pilot’s income, they have daily time restrictions on the amount a flight instructor can fly Once a flight instructor builds up enough time to go to the airlines, they will usually get picked up at a regional with a starting salary of 18-20k a year with a raise to 26-30k. With that said, it takes several years for a pilot to see a financial gain for the thousands of dollars and astronomical amount of time and energy they invested, but eventually, the pay reaching in the 90-120k plus a year range.

B.Aeronautical Engineers: I do not have first-hand experience for the salaries of aeronautical engineers, but I found on the below listed website that the typical salaries start around 24-150k.

C.A&P (airframe and power plant) Mechanics as they are called in the US have an average salary range of 35k-85k. I have several friends who are A&P’s and their salaries reflect the data on the listed site.

2.which is most glamorous profession?

In comparative analysis, all three (designer, operator, repairer), play an equally role, and the absents of all three are detrimental the aviation industry, along side the rest of the elemental functions of aviation infrastructure, DESPITE what others say about their individual roles which they believe and portray to be most vital.

Again, all three share equally
independent levels of responsibility,

4.who is considered as no:1 in aviation?

No one in my opinion, we are all part of and intricate system

5.who will be having most knowledge about airplanes?

There are different levels and understandings of knowledge, which again are equally important with respect to the common goal of safety and reliability. The pilots have a unique knowledge and understanding to the operation of the aircraft that goes beyond a computer generated representation of an aircraft design, where as the mechanic, has a different set of vital skills that also extend beyond the classroom.

Then there’s the engineer, who uses their knowledge of Science and mathematics to bring the idea to life and produce the next generation of airplanes.

Unfortunately there have been countless, misunderstandings between R&D and operations where there was something overlooked or not considered at all, which have let to catastrophic failures. This problem was alleviated when manufacturers started having the two departments work together where they could share their unique knowledge. On top of that, advanced computer software added to the reduction of abnormalities.
AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE ENGINEERING

In final words my personal note is in slight favor of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering.
AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE ENGINEERING IS GOOD AS YOU COULD KNOW MANY DIFFERENCE OF THE OPERATIONS IN MAINTENANCE. To be true this career is not so exiting.
The work of Aircraft Maintenance Engineer may not be exiting and glamorous but Aircraft Maintenance Engineers are just as vital to the aviation industry. Without AMEs you can't even imagine to fly.  
Aircraft Maintenance Engineers are the nuts and bolts of aviation.
