Position Description
          A VALID FAA AIRFRAME AND POWERPLANT CERTIFICATE IS REQUIRED. Please note your certificate number on your resume. Perform production installations, maintenance*, preventative maintenance** and alterations*** on aircraft structure, systems and sub-systems, including electrical and avionics on standard or experimental certificated aircraft. Troubleshoot, inspect, test, repair, service aircraft and engine systems to prepare aircraft for flight. Initiate and document any nonconforming materials, hardware, software, tools, parts, assemblies, or portions thereof, according to specifications, processes, and procedures. May perform Aviation Maintenance Technician Inspection tasks in order to obtain and maintain knowledge, skills and required certifications. Perform audit/surveillance of all manufacturing and quality assurance processes, according to specifications, processes, and procedures. Perform Quality functions such as: Customer/FAA Coordination, Configuration Change Verification, Conformity Inspections, Airworthiness Inspections (including Pre-flight and Post-flights), Corrective Action and Investigations. Initiate and document any nonconforming materials, hardware, software, tools, parts, assemblies, or portions thereof, according to specifications, processes, and procedures. May perform Aviation Maintenance Technician tasks in order to obtain and maintain knowledge, skills and required certifications.

Competencies
Ability to independently troubleshoot complex electrical and avionics systems.
  Advanced knowledge in the use of aircraft manuals including: F.I.M., A.M.M., Wiring Diagrams, schematics and Boeing Engineering drawings.
          Advanced knowledge in the use of calibrated aircraft test equipment
          Knowledge in the theory of electrical systems as it relates to aircraft operations.
          Knowledge of aircraft computing systems, aircraft loadable software and how this interacts with aircraft systems.
          Must be able to comprehend complex technical manuals, schematics, other technical materials and mathematical equations.
          Must be able to read, write and speak English.

Typical Education/Experience
          High school graduate or GED preferred. A valid FAA Airframe and Powerplant Certificate is required. Experience may include the following non-Boeing products, but is not limited to: A300, A310, A320, A330, A340, A380, L1011, CRJ100, CRJ200, CRJ300, CRJ400, CRJ400, CRJ500, CRJ600 and CRJ700. Previous avionics or electrical experience is required. Experience may include the following Boeing products, but is not limited to: 707, 727, 737, 757, 747, 767, 777, 787, C-17, F-14, F-15, F-16, F-18, F-22, MD11, MD80, MD90, DC10 and DC11. Prefer a minimum of five years of aircraft maintenance experience on complex jet powered aircraft with military, airline or certificated repair station background.

          This is an hourly position governed by the IAM Collective Bargaining agreement. Current Boeing employees working in Puget Sound, Wichita and Portland must submit an Employee Request Transfer (ERT) to be considered in the eligible candidate pool. May require the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance or passport if requested. This is a hub requisition therefore job location may be in any Puget Sound (Seattle area) location. Work may be performed at any location both domestic and abroad. Must be able to work any shift, overtime and holidays as required. New Boeing 747-8 Freighter Certified For Entry Into Service

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 22 (Bernama) -- Boeing received U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) certification on August 19 for the new 747-8 Freighter, passing two of the final landmarks on the airplane s journey to entry into service.

The FAA granted Boeing an Amended Type Certificate (ATC) and an Amended Production Certificate for the 747-8 Freighter, while the EASA also granted the company an ATC for the airplane.

With these certificates, the program is in the final stages of preparing to deliver the first 747-8 Freighter to launch customer Cargolux in early September.

The Amended Type Certificate acknowledges that the FAA and EASA have certified that the design of the 747-8 Freighter is compliant with all aviation regulatory requirements and will produce a safe and reliable airplane.

The airplane logged more than 3,400 hours of flight testing and many thousands more of ground, part, component, materials and other testing on the road to certification.

The Amended Production Certificate shows the FAA has validated that the Boeing 747 production system can reliably produce airplanes that will conform to the airplane s design.

EASA accepts FAA oversight of Boeing production certificates as sufficient for its regulations, as FAA accepts EASA oversight of European manufacturers production certificates.

The 747-8 Freighter is the new high-capacity 747 that will give cargo operators the lowest operating costs and best economics of any freighter airplane while providing enhanced environmental performance.

It is 250 feet, 2 inches (76.3 m) long, which is 18 feet and 4 inches (5.6 m) longer than the 747-400 Freighter.

The stretch provides customers with 16 percent more revenue cargo volume compared to its predecessor.

That translates to four additional main-deck pallets and three additional lower-hold pallets.

The 747-8 Freighters will be powered with GE's GEnx-2B engines.

Delivery of Boeing 787 Dreamliner Likely in December

The ailing national Air India airlines, which has been one of the first customers of the fuel-efficient aircraft, placed orders for 27 of them back in 2006, plans to fly it on the medium-range international routes.

Singapore is likely to be the first foreign destination on which Air India plans to operate two of these Boeing-787s, which it expects to be delivered this calendar year itself, airline sources said.

In addition to Singapore, they said, other routes may be Hong Kong, Dubai, Osaka, Jakarta and Frankfurt.

While the deliveries were earlier scheduled to begin from October this year, after being delayed by over two years, the sources said now the first delivery was only likely in December. The launch customer of the Dreamliners is Japan's All Nippon Airways

The prime reason for this delay is that Air India now wants the aircraft to be fully certified by the Federal Aviation Authority in the US before being delivered to it

To questions on when Air India planned to launch its subsidiary 'Alliance Air' as a full-fledged low-cost carrier, the sources said it could become functional as early as the Winter schedule starting October this year

It would be operationalised as soon as the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issues the airline operator permit (AOP) to it, the sources said.

Boeing 787 enters Final Phase of Flight Testing
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is set for its final phase of flight testing to earn certification for the aeroplane.

Function and Reliability (F&R) testing is undertaken to simulate operations for the aircraft in normal and non-normal conditions. There are also extended operations (ETOPS) tests, which validate the aircraft’s ability to divert safely, even with one engine shut down.

Scott Fancher, vice president and general manager of the 787 program, said, “We are ready for this final phase of flight testing. The team has created a solid plan for accomplishing the hours and test points required for F&R and ETOPS testing in support of delivery to our customer ANA in the August to September time period.”

Boeing are testing for Rolls-Royce and General Electric engine options for the 787, as well as testing other engine improvement packages.
